For health. For the planet. Forever.
Our skincare is made with intention. Every decision is guided by a lens of ethics, health and sustainability—from start to finish. From raw ingredients to final packaging, we’re meticulous about what goes into (and stays out of) Syll.
We hold ourselves to a higher standard—because your body and our planet deserve nothing less.
SOURCING PRINCIPLES

1: Beyond Natural. Our products are cruelty-free, non-GMO, and vegan. We also seek out organic, regeneratively grown, upcycled, zero-waste, and fair trade ingredients.
Furthermore, certain natural ingredients (e.g. sugarcane, coconut, shea, mica, palm, sandalwood, vanilla, and minerals like salt and zinc) need to be sourced with particular care. Others, like royal jelly, don't meet our ethical standards and are excluded from our supply chain.
2: Science-Backed, Sustainably Aligned We use clinically studied actives sourced from natural, green chemistry, and sustainable biotech origins, including fermentation, enzyme reactions, and supercritical CO₂ extraction—chosen for their quality, safety, and lower environmental footprint.
3: Biodegradable Our products do not contain ingredients or raw materials that persist in the environment, such as synthetic polymers, silicones, and EDTA. Biodegradable options are best for long-term ecosystem health.
4: No Petrochemicals The fossil fuel industry supplies many raw materials and ingredients derived from petroleum and natural gas. There is widespread concern regarding their impact on biological health and the environment. Here are some very common petrochemical ingredients: phthalates, parabens, mineral oil, paraffin, petroleum jelly, microplastics and many nanoparticles.
5: No Ethoxylates Ethylene oxide is a hazardous substance used in the manufacturing process of skincare ingredients. Ethoxylation produces the carcinogen 1, 4 dioxane, which has been found as a residue in many skincare ingredients. Byproducts of ethoxylation also persist in the environment and are toxic to human, animal and aquatic life.
You can spot ethoxylates on labels: e.g. PEGs, PPGs, phenoxyethanol, sodium laureth sulfate, and many ingredients with "-eth" in the name.
SAFETY PHILOSOPHY
Reproductive safety is the baseline for our skincare. The framework began with our founder’s first pregnancy—and it still guides everything we do. Because if it’s safe during pregnancy, it’s safe for everyone. But knowing what’s truly safe during pregnancy is....complicated. Without any universal standards for “pregnancy-safe skincare", there is a lot of noise, misinformation, and guesswork.
Same goes for sensitive skin. The are no certifications that ensure something is "sensitive skin safe". We now have more products than ever, and more people struggling with skin reactions.
What we do know is: pregnancy and sensitive skin safety go hand-in-hand. Read on for how we design skincare for all life stages and skin types — without compromising on effectiveness.

RESULTS WITHOUT IRRITATION
During pregnancy and as hormones fluctuate postpartum or later in life, skin can be more sensitive to pretty much everything, e.g. sunlight, strong actives, added fragrance, and some preservatives or cleansing agents.
We mitigate the likelihood of irritation with products that are non-photosensitizing and utilize actives with clinical studies backing up their efficacy and appropriateness for sensitive skin.

LESS & LOVING IT
Using less skincare is both practical and sustainable!
Syll uniquely designs our product lines to fundamentally minimize the number of products needed to create an efficacious, beautiful and effortless skincare routine.
In this way, we help people minimize their exposure to undesirable chemicals and skin reactivity from overdoing it with too many products. All while helping to reduce consumption and produce less waste waste by eliminating unnecessary products and steps.

CARE-FULL
In addition to our strict environmental safety standards, we err on the side of caution by avoiding ingredients that may raise health concerns or cause skin irritation—especially while pregnant or nursing. This includes retinoids, certain skin lighteners including hydroquinone derivatives (arbutin) & kojic acid, parabens, formaldehydes, strong hydroxy acids, added fragrance (including essential oils), and artificial colors.

OPTIMIZED BY EXPERTS
We have spent thousands of hours reviewing studies and consulting with professionals to prioritize safety and make your life easier. Syll Botanics®—and doctors, nurse midwives, scientists, herbalists and aromatherapists—have your back. And belly.
