For health. For the planet. Forever.
What’s good for the environment is a pretty awesome indicator of what’s good for us humans. So, that’s the first filter we use in determining what makes the cut in our skincare. From raw ingredients to final packaging, we’re meticulous about what goes into (and stays out of) Syll.
The framework for our sourcing and formulation principles began with our founder’s first pregnancy—and that still guides everything we do. If an ingredient isn’t safe for all stages of motherhood, sensitive skin, and the environment, it doesn’t belong in our formulas.
We hold ourselves to a higher standard—because your body deserves nothing less.

SOURCING PRINCIPLES
"Natural" isn't Enough
Just because something is natural, doesn't mean it's been sourced responsibly. We prioritize ingredients that are organic, regeneratively grown, upcycled, zero-waste, and fair trade first. Our suppliers are also vetted to ensure safe labor conditions. Certain plant-based ingredients (e.g. sugarcane, coconut, shea, mica, palm, bakuchiol, sandalwood, frankincense, vanilla, even salt and other minerals) need to be sourced with particular care. Some natural ingredients like royal jelly, simply don't meet our ethical standards and are excluded from our supply chain entirely.
Science-Backed, Nature-Aligned
We use clinically studied actives sourced from natural, green chemistry, and sustainable biotech origins.
These include ingredients produced through processes like fermentation, enzyme reactions, and supercritical CO₂ extraction—chosen for their quality, efficacy, safety, and environmental footprint.
Cruelty-free, non-GMO, vegan
We use only vegan ingredients that are never tested on animals and are GMO-free.
Biodegradable
We avoid ingredients—and raw materials—that persist in the environment, such as synthetic polymers, silicones, and EDTA, in favor of biodegradable alternatives that are better for long-term ecosystem health.
Zero Compromise on Health & Environmental Impact
Petrochemicals don’t belong in skincare. Ingredients like mineral oil, paraffin, and petroleum jelly support the fossil fuel industry and often rely on harmful ethoxylated solvents e.g. PEGs, PPGs, phenoxyethanol, (look for -eth) for their production.
Worth also highlighting are no phthalates, PFAS, and nanoparticles—which raise concerns for both human health and the environment.
Our skincare is made with intention. Every decision is guided by a lens of ethics and sustainability—from start to finish.
SYLL'S SAFETY PHILOSOPHY
We believe that pregnancy-safe should be the baseline standard for skincare safety. Why? Because if it’s safe during pregnancy, it’s safe for everyone.
But (are you surprised?) there’s actually no universal standard for what qualifies as “pregnancy-safe skincare.” No global regulations. No certifications. Just a whole lot of noise, misinformation, and guesswork. Knowing what’s truly safe during pregnancy is… complicated.
The same goes for sensitive skin. More people than ever are struggling with skin reactions and sensitivities—often the result of products that promise quick fixes but compromise your skin barrier over time. Ironically, that undermines long-term results.
So what does “sensitive-skin safe” really mean? And with so many brands throwing that term around, how can you know what actually works without irritating your skin?
Here’s the thing: pregnancy safety and sensitive skin safety go hand-in-hand. At Syll, we take both seriously—not just as checkboxes to claim, but as core design principles. Our philosophy is rooted in transparency, ingredient integrity, and whole-body wellness. We believe that when you prioritize safety, you get better skincare for everyone—gentler, smarter, and more effective.
Read on to learn how we simplify these (maximally confusing) topics—and how Syll makes safety feel effortless.

RESULTS WITHOUT IRRITATION
During pregnancy and as hormones fluctuate postpartum, while breastfeeding, or later in life, skin can be more sensitive to pretty much everything, including sunlight, harsh actives, heavily scented products, certain preservatives and surfactants and strong exfoliants.
We consciously design non-photosensitizing, non-irritating formulas that are highly efficacious during pregnancy AND for all skin types, during any life stage.
We do this with actives that have clinical studies backing up both efficacy and appropriateness for sensitive skin. Plus, we use them at exactly the right levels for maximum efficacy without reactivity (read ore in our science section).

LESS & LOVING IT
Using less skincare is both practical and sustainable!
Syll uniquely designs our product lines to fundamentally minimize the number of products needed to create an efficacious, beautiful and effortless skincare routine.
In this way, we help people minimize their exposure to undesirable chemicals and skin reactivity from overdoing it with too many products. All while helping to reduce consumption and produce less waste waste by eliminating unnecessary products and steps.

CARE-FULL
In addition to our strict environmental safety standards, we err on the side of caution by avoiding ingredients that may raise health concerns or cause skin irritation—especially while pregnant or nursing. This includes retinoids, certain skin lighteners including hydroquinone derivatives (arbutin) & kojic acid, parabens, formaldehydes, strong hydroxy acids, added fragrance (including essential oils), and artificial colors.

OPTIMIZED BY EXPERTS
We have spent thousands of hours reviewing studies and consulting with professionals to prioritize safety and make your life easier. Syll Botanics®—and doctors, nurse midwives, scientists, herbalists and aromatherapists—have your back. And belly.
SUSTAINABILITY
Syll is a 100% woman owned company based in Colorado. We make our products in small batches utilizing 50% renewable energy. In addition to our stringent, environmentally conscious sourcing standards listed above, see below for more ways we are committed to being a responsible business that honors people and planet.

FUTURE-GENERATIONS SAFE
From mother to child. From our environment to our bodies. From now to the future. At Syll, sustainability is more than a buzzword. It’s an opportunity to meet our needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs. That’s why we intentionally create products and practices that pass only positive things from one generation to the next.
