The Science Behind the S.Y.L.L. Method
Our approach: strengthen barrier function, support a healthy microbiome, balance pH and sebum, and deliver visible results.
We blend biocompatible botanicals with clinically studied actives — sourced from green chemistry and sustainable biotech, including fermentation, enzymatic reactions, and supercritical CO₂ extraction — used only at efficacious levels. No fairy dusting to pack a label; no over-saturating that leads to irritation.
We vet every ingredient against the best human (in-vivo) studies available and choose non-photosensitizing actives so you can use Syll AM and PM, year-round, and even with sensitive skin.
All Syll products have a beautifully light, skin-compatible scent from the gentle plant extracts, hydrosols, and cold-pressed oils in our formulas. Many skincare products contain a strong scent, but this contributes to reactivity, especially for sensitive skin or some life stages like pregnancy and postpartum. So we never add fragrance, synthetic or natural.

From raw ingredients to final packaging, every decision is made through a lens of ethics, health, and sustainability.
No liquid plastics — A type of synthetic polymer, plastic ingredients are widespread — even in "clean" beauty. Most are derived from petrochemicals and many contain phthalates, which can build up on or absorb into skin and hair, causing damage and raising health concerns. Liquid plastics do not biodegrade and contaminate ecosystems, including our food and water supply. Examples: acrylates, carbomer, silicones, polyquats, copolymers, vinyl, nylon.
No ethoxylates — Many cosmetic ingredients — especially petrochemicals — are processed using ethylene oxide, a known carcinogen. This process creates 1,4-dioxane as a byproduct, which can remain as residue in the final product and is harmful to both humans and the environment. Examples: PEGs/PPGs, phenoxyethanol, laureths, polysorbates.
Consciously Sourced — Vegan, non-GMO, and cruelty-free, with a bias toward organic, regenerative, upcycled, zero-waste, and fair-trade sourcing where possible. We scrutinize natural materials where sourcing can be problematic — because natural doesn't always mean responsible.
Reproductive & Sensitive-Skin Safe — We built guidelines where universal ones don't exist. No retinoids, hydroquinone, arbutin, formaldehydes, strong hydroxy acids, ethanolamines, fragrance, parabens, or artificial colors. Our non-photosensitizing actives deliver results without irritation or health concerns — at any life stage.
