Our goal: strengthen barrier function, support a healthy microbiome, balance pH and sebum, and deliver visible results.
We blend biocompatible botanicals with clinically studied actives—sourced from green chemistry and sustainable biotech (think fermentation, enzymatic reactions, supercritical CO₂, less water intensive) used only at efficacious levels. No “fairy dusting” to pack a label; no "over-saturating" to make a product standout but lead to irritation.
We vet every ingredient against the best human (in-vivo) studies available and choose non-photosensitizing actives so you can use Syll AM/PM and year-round, even if you have have sensitive skin.
Scent science: so many skincare products are laden with heavy scents that contribute to reactivity. We avoid added fragrance (synthetically made or naturally derived from essential oils). Instead, we use gentle plant extracts, hydrosols, and cold-pressed oils for a light, pleasant, skin-compatible scent—especially important during pregnancy and for sensitive skin.
Our standards
From raw ingredients to final packaging, we use a lens of ethics, health, and sustainability:
No liquid plastics: A type of synthetic polymer, plastic ingredients are widespread — even in “clean” beauty. Most are derived from petrochemicals, and many contain phthalates. They can build up on or be absorbed by skin and hair, resulting in skin damage, hair breakage and health concerns. Liquid plastics contaminate ecosystems, including our food and water supply. Examples: acrylates, carbomer, silicones, polyquats, copolymers, vinyl, nylon.
No ethoxylates: ethylene oxide is a solvent used to process many cosmetic ingredients, especially petrochemicals. Ethoxylation creates the carcinogenic by-product, 1,4-dioxane, which can remain as residue and is harmful to humans and the environment. Examples: PEGs/PPGs, phenoxyethanol, -laureths, polysorbates, many liquid plastics.
Biodegradable: ingredients must not persist in the environment, meaning no silicones, other synthetic polymers, and stabilizers like EDTA.
Beyond Natural: our ingredients are vegan, non-GMO and cruelty-free —with a bias for organic, regenerative, upcycled, zero-waste or fair-trade if possible. We scrutinize natural materials where sourcing can be problematic.
Reproductive & sensitive-skin safety: in a world with no universal guidelines, we built our own. No retinoids; lighteners (hydroquinone, arbutin); formaldehydes; strong hydroxy acids; ethanolamines (TEA/DEA/MEA); fragrance; parabens; artificial colors. Our clinically supported, non-photosensitizing actives deliver results without irritation or health concerns.
Less and loving it: fewer products mean lower exposure to undesirable chemicals and less waste. Experts —doctors, scientists, herbalists — inform continuous improvement.
